Cultural relativism is likely the most important concept in cultural anthropology. Briefly define it and discuss why it is important. Then, illustrate your understanding of the concept and why it is important using two examples. One of these examples should be drawn from an important event or key theme in Elliot Fratkin’s book Laibon. The second should be drawn from your own life experiences or your own original interpretation of current events.
A few tips on writing a good paper:
Don’t plagiarize. Its relatively easy to get caught and its not even worth it because most plagiarized papers are actually pretty bad.
Make sure you address everything. There are three main components and (as I’ve seen in a lot of student papers) sometimes people will just not include some key piece, which will always result in a poor grade even if the rest of the paper is quite good.
Don’t try to stretch it out with fluff. A thousand words isn’t really a lot. Saying generic things or repeating yourself will not make the paper better. Neither will repeating yourself of saying generic things. No matter how generic or repeatable. A paper that is only 700-800 words probably won’t be an “A” paper, but a 700-800 word paper with 200 meaningless words tacked on will generally get a lower grade than a good 700-800 word paper.
Be concise when you can, but not too brief. For example, I would not recommend spending 500 words on defining cultural relativism and discussing its important (because then you won’t have space for your examples, when you have the opportunity to flesh it out) but also don’t try to do it in a sentence or two. Similarly, don’t try to give examples in a sentence or two as they will be too superficial to illustrate thought, understanding or knowledge.
