Explain models of practice that underpin equality, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility

1.1 Explain models of practice that underpin equality, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility

According to Jakie Marsh
Reflect upon Productive Pedagogies by Jakie Marsh
The explanation of models of practice can be summarized by the graph below:

Although in the ideal world we would embrace and celebrate the differences of nationalities, cultures and genders working together, reality as well as, the needs of the business imposeunavoidable barriers.
With that information in our setting we have adapted the “Equality and Diversity by Reaseheath” methodology which states:
“1. EQUALITY & DIVERSITY: Equality is not about treating all people in the same way. It’s about recognizing and respecting diversity enough to adapt practice and procedure to suit all.”
In my role as a manager each team individual is given the adapted form of routine and structure to fit their own diverse character. An example is a team member who is dyslectic has a laptop to note the minutes of meeting instead of having to write down on paper. This way the responsibilities stay the same but adapt according to need.
Parents of all cultures, sex and needs are welcomed as well as celebrated at the nursery.
In our setting we value and support the personal preference of each parentas much as the setting allows. A child that had just moved to the country had difficulty with the common English language and needed support from our side as the parents were feeling anxious as well. Although she was originally placed in a great classroom she was moved to a classroom that could support this need and ease her settling in in having a person that can communicate with her in a language she is comfortable with.
An example of inclusion and celebrating differences in our setting is the welcoming of all children of determination as well as making time to meet with the therapists and submitting a progress report on a termly basis.
An example that summarizes our cohesive triangle support would be the adaptation of the setting to support the child, parents and the team in that classroom. A Teaching Assistant who is also a nurse was moved up the age groups to stay with a Diabetic child who was moved as well in order to keep the child with medical personnel, ease the parents that someone who knows her as well and has dealt with her is there and also to ease the anxiousness of the new team.

According to the UK equality Act “The Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act became law in October, 2010. It replaced previous legislation (such as the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) and ensures consistency in what employers and employees need to do to make their workplaces a fair environment and comply with the law.”

In the UAE and according to The National
“Anti-discrimination law enacted across UAE
A law criminalising all forms of discrimination on the grounds of religion, caste, creed, doctrine, race, colour or ethnic origin is issued following a decree by President Sheikh Khalifa.”
Although in our setting we do not have an official policy against discrimination and equality it is an essential part of our team values which is highly monitored by myself and the rest of management. Following our vision, respect, and equality cannot be put on paper as it is a value not a rule.

1.2 Analyze the potential effects of barriers to equality and inclusions in own area of responsibility

Barrier Effects of Barrier
Qualification Recruitment, Business Cost, Team Equality and the Children’s Experience
Gender Discrimination Recruitment, Diversity, Business Limitations
Family Dependents Ratios, children exposure and business cost
